Troy Lanz spent 16 years in the HVAC trade before starting his own company in 2002, installing residential heating and cooling systems around Champaign-Urbana. Kathleen Lanz built the customer-first side of the business, and that philosophy has survived every expansion since.
A service department came in 2005. Then plumbing. Then duct cleaning, commercial HVAC, refrigeration, and finally the underground division that lets us repair a sewer main without digging up your parking lot. Today more than 115+ employees run roughly 90 service vehicles across Illinois and Arizona.

Twice a year. Heat pumps and air conditioners should get a professional tune-up in the spring and again in the fall. Preventive maintenance catches leaks, rust, soot, frayed wires, and corroded electrical contacts before they turn into a no-heat call in January. Comfort Family membership bundles both visits into one monthly rate.
Replace a standard disposable filter every month. Media filters trap up to seven times more dust than a standard filter, and pleated media filters also capture fine particles and airborne viruses. If you cannot find the right size at a hardware store, that is normal — filters for Trane equipment are made from higher-grade material and come through an authorized dealer like us.
SEER stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio, and it measures how much cooling you get per dollar of electricity. Ratings generally run from 13 to 21, and higher is more efficient. The reason the quoted number can differ from the yellow Energy Guide sticker is that SEER is a rating for the matched system — the outdoor unit combined with the specific indoor coil, furnace, or air handler it is paired with.
Trenchless methods repair or replace a pipe with little or no excavation. Directional boring pulls a new line underground without opening a trench, and pipelining rehabilitates the existing pipe from the inside with a cured epoxy liner. Our crews are NASSCO-certified drain professionals with PACP-certified inspectors, so the process starts with a camera inspection that tells us exactly what shape the line is in.
The manufacturer covers defective parts for the length of the factory warranty, and Lanz adds a one-year labor warranty on every new installation. Comfort Family members extend that labor coverage to as much as 10 years on new Trane equipment.
